***The demonstration activity on “Monitoring and
Assessing Atmospheric Deposition of Pollutants” should address the
regional target of “reduction of total loading from point sources from
2006 levels (China will reduce total N loading from point sources 10%
from 2006-2010).” This activity should show the effectiveness of
carrying out regular monitoring and assessment programmes, and give
suggestions to policy makers on how information should be shared in the
region.*** Expected Activities and Outputs: 1) carry out the necessary activities in the coastal areas of the Yellow Sea; 2) monitor the deposition of relevant variables from at least 2 observation stations; 3) carry out regular monitoring and sampling of agreed variables, i.e. nutrients, PAHs, and trace metals; 4) through the monitoring activities, calculate the amount of contaminants from atmospheric deposition; 5) assess the temporal distribution of atmospheric deposition; 6) evaluate the contribution of atmospheric deposition to total loadings in the coastal area where the demonstration is carried out; 7) inform the national and local governments of the amount of atmospheric deposition and major sources of contaminants; and 8) suggest to governments how to share data and/or carry out regular regional monitoring. The maximum implementation period of the project is 18 months. The project must be completed by December 2009 at the latest. For the EOI submission format, please click on PDF file
