***The demonstration activity on “Establishing Regular
Public Awareness Programmes on Marine Pollution” should address at least
one of the two regional targets of: 1. “reduced standing stock of litter from current level (increase public awareness; periodic cleanups)”; 2. “reduce contaminants, particularly in bathing beaches and other marine recreational waters, to nationally acceptable levels.” The activity should include stakeholders in hands-on work, and demonstrate to the relevant authorities how public involvement can help improve the level of environmental awareness and knowledge.*** The activity should also meet the following requirements: If addressing marine litter: 1. activity is to be carried out in a coastal area in the Yellow Sea; 2. perform 2 surveys on marine litter in the proposed working area; 3. based on the results of the marine litter survey and other available data, propose a management framework to deal with marine litter in the Yellow Sea; 4. demonstrate to relevant authorities the improved environmental awareness level of stakeholders on marine litter issues through this activity; and 5. integrate regular monitoring and management actions into the workplan of the relevant authorities. If addressing other issues on marine pollution awareness: 1. Set-up permanent exhibitions of specimens, posters, books, A/V materials, and other relevant display items hosted by an institute in the Yellow Sea region. The exhibition can be a new one or may be combined with existing ones to expand the existing ones. 2. Implement relevant public awareness activities as needed; 3. Demonstrate to the government, the benefits received by activity participants, how they improved their knowledge on marine pollution issues, and how these exhibitions/activities can help to fulfil the regional target(s); and 4. Integrate the regular public awareness actions into the workplan of the relevant authorities. For the EOI submission format, please click on PDF file
