DESCRIPTION The Project seeks institutions or individuals to implement a demonstration activity on “Monitoring and Assessing Sea-Based Sources of Nutrients” in order to show the effectiveness of carrying out regular monitoring and assessment of nutrients in an existing mariculture area in the Yellow Sea.

Expected Procurement Components
 
***The demonstration activity on “Monitoring and Assessing Sea-based Sources of Nutrients” should address the target of “reduction of total loading from point sources from 2006 levels (China will reduce total N loading from point sources 10% from 2006-2010).” This activity should show the effectiveness of carrying out regular monitoring and assessment of nutrients in an existing mariculture area. It should also provide recommendations to the mariculture industry and policy makers on how to control total loading, and give some prelude as to how this will contribute to the target to reduce N loading by 10%.***

The activity should also meet the following requirements:

1. carried out necessary activities in a coastal bay containing mariculture activity, and within the geographic scope described below;
2. include 2 survey cruises and use historical data as the basis for information;
3. assess the contribution of sea-based discharge of nutrients to total loadings ;
4. provide management suggestions on reduction of sea-based discharge of nutrients;
5. provide information to the mariculture industry from where major sources of sea-based nutrients are released, so that mariculture industry can improve its sustainability;
6. provide recommendations and examine possibility to meet target as stated above;
7. design preliminary environmental target control regulation; and
8. carry out preliminary co-ordination between government agencies for information exchange.
