DESCRIPTION The Project seeks institutions or individuals to implement a demonstration activity on “Monitoring Jellyfish Bloom in the Yellow Sea” in order to show the benefits of carrying out regular monitoring of jellyfish in the Yellow Sea, and how the collected information will be used for better management of Yellow Sea’s ecosystem.

Expected Procurement Components
 
***The demonstration activity on “Monitoring Jellyfish Bloom in the Yellow Sea” should address the regional target of “better understanding and prediction of ecosystem changes for adaptive management.” This activity should show the benefits of carrying out regular monitoring of jellyfish in the Yellow Sea, and how the collected information will be used for better management of Yellow Sea’s ecosystem.***

The activity should also meet the following requirements:

1. development of national and regional monitoring methodologies for jellyfish bloom to be accepted and used in the future;
2. monitor jellyfish blooms in the Yellow Sea plus co-ordinate some of the monitoring events with the Project’s summer co-operative cruise scheduled for August 2008;
3. carry out monitoring on ship of opportunities; and
4. begin establishing an international monitoring network for jellyfish events in the Yellow Sea.

The expected outputs of this activity are:

1. Technical Guidelines on Jellyfish monitoring;
2. Report showing the work carried out and results of the above four requirements;
3. Report describing origination, composition, propagation, and transport route of jellyfish bloom;
4. Based on the observed data of jellyfish bloom, provide recommendations on how to manage the Yellow Sea to limit/reduce instances of jellyfish bloom; and
5. Reviews of current and recommendations for further developing national and regional monitoring methodologies.
